Position Function Summary
Under the general direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant assists in accomplishing the financial and compliance management activities of La Familia Medical Center; processes all aspects related to the purchasing process and provides financial information to management. Performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable grant terms and conditions, other contractual obligations, and Governing Board-approved financial policies of LFMC.
Essential Responsibilities
- Receives daily cash bags and verifies against the Payment Batch Reconciliation report and the medical and dental practice management software;
- Deposits cash receipts daily and posts transaction in the accounting software;
- Performs balance sheet reconciliations;
- Processes Purchase Order requests in the accounting software
- Ensures requests for Purchase Order numbers have proper management and/or board approval and supporting documentation;
- Ensures purchase requests over $10,000 in the aggregate but less than $250,000 are supported by two or more qualified sources
- Assists with procurement processes through verification of authorized purchases per funding contracts and LFMC policies and procedures, and other relevant regulatory contracting terms and conditions;
- Assists in the preparation of RFQ's for solicitation of bids and the procurement of goods and services in compliance with Attachment O of OMB Circular A-110;
- Assists in month-end and year-end close activities including journal entries and reconciliations;
- Assists with recording the cost of newly added fixed assets and tracks existing ones;
- Assists in calculating and recording depreciation/amortization and disposal of fixed assets;
- Assists in the preparation of the annual organization-wide budget and subsidiary budgets;
- Assists in the annual audit process to ensure timely provision of worksheets, accounting and operational details, and other information as needed;
- Performs annual inventory of pharmaceutical, medical, dental and general supplies
Education, Experience and Skills/Training
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting from an accredited college of business administration or management is preferred. Minimum Bachelor's degree in business, finance, nursing, or other closely related field. At least 4 years of similar experience may be substituted for the degree requirement, provided experience shows progression into a supervisory or increased responsibility level in a similar type job function, during which skills and abilities to perform all essential functions have been amply demonstrated at a consistently competent level, with a minimum of four (4) years job related experience; recent health care accounting experience in the Federally Qualified Health Center environment highly desirable. Experience in governmental or not-for-profit organizations also highly desirable.
- The preferred candidate will have healthcare accounting experience in a Federally Qualified Heath Center or similar healthcare environment.
- Financial analysis, budgeting, cost controls;
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and a willingness to work the hours necessary to meet established deadlines;
- Proficiency in using financial and business computer applications, specifically Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, pivot tables, and statistical and financial functions;
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial information with governmental regulations;
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and financial policies and procedures;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Detail oriented, meticulous in the presentation of work products and a strong emphasis on accuracy;
- Fundamental knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
- Solid working knowledge and ability to apply the principles of cost accounting;
- Ability to exercise a high level of integrity and confidentiality;
- Professional in appearance and actions, and promotes a team effort in problem solving.
- Fluent in English, required.
