Position Function Summary
Under the direction of the Clinical Programs Manager and Chief Medical Officer, the Pharmacy Primary Vaccine Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring all vaccines are stored and handled correctly and will be a subject matter expert on the La Familia Medical Center’s storage and handling processes. Also has dual reporting structure to the pharmacy manager, as this person will be also working as a pharmacy technician when not otherwise occupied with vaccine related duties.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ordering vaccines
- Overseeing vaccine cold chain, including proper receipt and storage of vaccine deliveries
- Documenting & reporting vaccine inventory information
- Organizing vaccines within storage units according to state and federal guidelines
- Setting up temperature devices
- Checking and recording minimum/maximum temperatures twice a day
- Reviewing, analyzing, and reporting temperature data at least weekly for any shifts in temperature trends
- Maintaining inventory, including rotating stock at least weekly so vaccines with the earliest expiration dates are used first
- Removing expired vaccine from storage units
- Responding to temperature excursions (out-of-range temperatures)
- Maintaining all documentation, such as inventory and temperature logs
- Participating in weekly vaccine management planning meetings
- Identify challenges and weaknesses for vaccine management quality improvement
- Working with Clinical Programs Manager and Clinical Nurse Educator to identify, develop, and implement vaccine-related trainings
- Overseeing proper vaccine transport (when necessary)
- Overseeing emergency preparations
- Ensuring appropriate handling of vaccines during a disaster or power outage
- Works in cooperation with and supports the pharmacists and medical staff.
Education, Experience and Skills/Training
- High school graduate or GED certificate. Pharmacy technician license required
